About every 15th German person lives in the EMM, 5.49 million in all.
The MMR boasts the highest rate of population growth (+ 6.3%) of all German metropolitan regions. The EMM owes this above all to newcomers from the other German regions. (cf. Germany: +0.3 %)
Until the year 2025 a further growth in population of +7.3 % is forecast (cf. Germany: -1.9%).
The MMR, with an average age of 41.8 years, has the youngest population of all German metropolitan regions. (cf. Germany 43.0).
There are almost 2 million persons in the EMM working in jobs subject to social security contributions. With a growth rate of a total of +7% between 1997and 2006 the EMM was able to take up an unchallenged position as the leader among the German metropolitan regions (cf., for example Hamburg (+1.1%), Berlin-Brandenburg (-14.1%), Germany (-3.4%)).
The proportion of employees in jobs subject to social insurance contributions who have a degree from a University or Technical College is 13% and thus the highest in the whole of Germany (cf. Germany 9.7%).
In the MMR, 18.2 out of every 1,000 of the working population are employed in the research and development field. That is 2.5 times the national average (7.7 out of 1,000).
The unemployment rate of 4.4 % is the lowest of all metropolitan regions throughout Germany and that for every 100 applicants 99.14 company-internal trainee positions are available (cf. Germany 94.55).
Every worker in the MMR has contributed Euro 72,163 to the Gross Domestic Product. Since 1997, it has proven possible to increase the GDP by +34.6%. In this respect the EMM has maintained its leading position among the metropolitan regions and has indeed been able to extend its lead (cf. Hamburg Euro 68,957, [+21.9%]), Berlin-Brandenburg (Euro 50,605 [+10.1%]), Germany Euro 59,410 [+21.2%]).
The average distance travelled by all commuters for all employees within the MMR is 17.1 km. (cf. Germany 16.26 km)
Three quarters of all the inhabitants of the MMR can reach Munich Airport by car within 60 minutes.
The MMR can boast more than 30 million overnight guests. This represents an average of 5.5 overnight stays per inhabitant and is thus higher than anywhere else in Germany.
