Automotive

The Munich Metropolitan Region is considered one of the leading locations worldwide for the manufacturing of automobiles and also plays a leading role in innovations and new developments. Many renowned automotive companies and their suppliers have to this day their roots in the region or have settled here over the course of time. This has made a crucial impression upon the region and is responsible for the fact that it has proven possible to maintain and extend this core competence, which is important to both society in general and the industry in particular.

This is made clear by the high proportion of employees in the vehicle construction industry in relation to the overall working population. For example, every tenth worker in the Lower Bavarian region is employed in the automotive sector. Audi, BMW and MAN are the best-known trade marks within the region. Around these trade marks, there exists a large network of globally active supply companies and internationally leading suppliers of special technologies as well as leading research and development facilities.

In all, ca. 1,000 small, medium and large companies from the automotive industry have settled in the Munich Metropolitan Region.

Cross-sectoral cooperations, for example with companies from the environment technology industry, and intensive collaboration with the region?s institutes of higher education, such as the Ingolstadt Institutes of the Technical University of Munich, round off the image of the automotive sector. This spectrum is complemented by a number of top quality events and trade fairs, among them the Automatica or the Productronica.
