The Landscapes of the Munich Metropolitan Region: Diversity and Sustainability
The Landscapes Subgroup focuses on preserving the diversity of our traditional cultural landscapes while maintaining sustainability in a flourishing economy. The territory of the Munich Metropolitan Region (EMM) features a diversity of natural spaces and associated cultural landscapes.
Project: Dreamscapes and Energyscapes in the Munich Metropolitan Region
- Idealized expressions of the various landscapes are spatially catalogued, characterized and visually represented. The value and significance of EMM landscapes should be widely publicized to all parts of society and used more prominently as a soft factor when promoting the EMM as a business location.
- Climate protection is playing an increasingly important role in the EMM, as more and more rural districts commit themselves to an ?Energy Revolution 2030?. In this context, the combined conurbation of Augsburg, Munich and the intervening rural districts should initially be taken as a geographically restricted index case when considering the question:
How are these landscapes to be shaped and utilized in the context of the energy revolution?
What effects will this have on the quality of our cultural landscapes, if agriculture/forestry and renewable energy production present competing land-use demands in the context of existing regional and statewide activities?
