Accessibility atlas
A basis for the optimisation of accessibility was created in the project ?Accessibility atlas for the EMM?. The aim of the project was the clear visualisation of the location qualities within the MMR with regard to different carriers (passenger / freight traffic).
These was analysed and illustrated with regard to networking within the MMR and to the external connections. To this end an accessibility atlas was compiled that illustrates the strengths and weaknesses as well as offering approaches to a solution and fields of activity.
The TUM?s Department for settlement structure and traffic planning was compiled, in close cooperation with the State Capital of Munich/Planning Department and with the support of the Supreme Building Authority (OBB) in the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior, the MVV and the MVG, an accessibility atlas for the Munich Metropolitan Region.
In a first phase the observations were concentrated upon the narrower environs of Munich and the idea of extending this work to the more rural areas of the MMR was discussed.
As a first step towards this end a comprehensive database was compiled in the course of the year 2009 that encompasses both the transport services (networks, timetables, etc.) as well as the structural features (inhabitants, jobs ?points of interest?, etc.). From these data, depending on the question asked, various accessibility indicators (e. g. for different purposes of journeys, means of transport, times of day) can be derived.
Now it is possible to demonstrate an individualised illustration of accessibility. An interesting field of application for the accessibility atlas could accordingly be an individualised location advisory service for households and companies.
