EMM e.V. events

One of EMM e.V.'s most important tasks is to encourage and streamline dialogue and cooperation between players in the region. That is why regular events and/or joint presentations are organized on a variety of topics within the framework of the association's networking activities. Alongside regular working group and networking events, the annual Metropolitan Region Conference and the Munich Metropolitan Region's joint stand at the Expo Real commercial property trade fair rank among the most important dates in its calendar of events.

Metropolitan Region Conferences

Once a year, EMM e.V. organizes its Metropolitan Region Conference at a different venue in the region. This annual conference is attended by all actors in the association, its aim being to share information and views on the individual subject areas in which the working and project groups are currently involved. Another key function of these gatherings is to field ideas and discuss new possibilities for further association projects.

Each year, a different topic chosen from among those topics that the various regional players are currently addressing serves as the focus of the conference.

The Metropolitan Region Conferences have highlighted the following issues:

2017:"Digitalization and networking - challenges and strategies for cooperation between regions and economy", Kloster Fürstenfeld
2016:"Mobility in the Munich Metropolitan Region. Claim and reality. On the way to a common mobility concept for city and countryside", Kloster Thierhaupten
2015:""Macht mehr Mobilität. Was bewegt die Metropolregion München in Zukunft?", Rottach-Egern
2014: "Energy transition with local climate protection concepts. Is that enough?", Neuburg/Donau
2013: "Challenges to a growing region", Waging/See
2012: "Healthcare industry in the Munich Metropolitan Region", Bad Tölz
2011: "Culture in the Munich Metropolitan Region", Füssen
2010: "Environment in the Munich Metropolitan Region", Rosenheim
2009: "Mobility in the Munich Metropolitan Region", Landshut

Expo Real

Every year since the association was first launched, EMM e.V. has organized a joint Munich Metropolitan Region stand at Expo Real in Munich, the biggest European trade fair for commercial property and investment. At each fair, some of the most attractive locations and companies in the region step up as partners under the aegis of the metropolitan region. Moreover, this joint stand is always positioned right next to the trade fair presence of the City of Munich and the Augsburg A³ economic area, both of which are also part of the Munich Metropolitan Region. In recent years, this show of strength has showcased investment opportunities in the region on over 500 m2 of stand space.

At the Marketplace Munich trade fair forum, the Munich Metropolitan Region consistently zooms in on topical real estate issues and their political context. Subjects explored in panel discussions range from popular participation, the management of conversion areas and the discovery of hidden champions in the region to hotel development potential and mobility as a location factor.

"Creative. Successful in the Munich Metropolitan Region" roadshow

Throughout the entire region, the cultural and creative industries not only deliver high-quality "products". They are also a very significant economic factor, generating annual turnover of around 20 billion euros. This was one of the key findings of a joint study published at the end of 2012 by EMM e.V. in collaboration with the City of Munich's Department of Arts and Culture and the Department of Labor and Economic Development, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Munich and Upper Bavaria and film and TV production funding agency FilmFernsehFonds Bayern.

Yet despite such impressive figures, these industries are still often underestimated. This is largely due to their inherently fragmented nature, with many small groups operating in widely differing fields - everything from the art market to the music industry, from the performing arts and design to the press and advertising. In this sphere in particular, it is not easy to see the big picture.

Aware of this challenge, EMM e.V. launched a series of events that went on tour through the Munich Metropolitan Region with the aim of raising the industry's visibility. Roadshow events held in counties and communities focused on forging network links between cultural and creative workers and with representatives of other branches of industry in the region. Another aim was to promote dialogue between public departments and the industry, asking the question: In the view of creative companies, what is already working well and where is there still room for improvement?

The roadshow premiered in December 2013 in the county of Miesbach. Events in the counties of of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Fürstenfeldbruck, Pfaffenhofen/Ilm and Weilheim-Schongau followed in 2014. The show will stop at a series of other cities and counties in the course of 2015.

Networking events in the working groups

EMM e.V. regularly organizes networking events on a diverse assortment of topics. They include workshops for the region's economic development units, networking meetings for climate protection officers and qualified labor initiatives, and a symposium on energy-sustainable communities.
