Mechanical engineering

Some 2,000 companies in the Munich Metropolitan Region belong to the mechanical engineering industry. The construction of machinery, engines and drive systems in this sector is flanked by numerous related disciplines such as material sciences, engineering mechanics and measurement and control systems.

Education and research facilities such as TUM's Department of Mechanical Engineering help the industry to exploit its development and innovation potential in the Munich Metropolitan Region. A number of regional and supraregional networks drive technology transfer and the sharing and exchange of Information.

Market-leading high-tech players in the mechatronics industry are likewise well networked in the region. Degree courses in mechatronics are taught by TUM and the universities of applied sciences in Augsburg and Munich.

Non-university research organizations include the Robotics and Mechatronics Center at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration and the production engineering user center at TUM's Institute for Machine Tools and Industrial Management in Augsburg.
