County of Starnberg

A top place to live and do business on the doorstep of a world-class city: Welcome to the Starnberg-Ammersee region.

Hidden champions in high-tech industries, substantial art and cultural projects, long-standing craft firms and the small matter of a marvelous, lake-strewn landscape: The county of Starnberg is innovative, rich in tradition – and committed to excellence in every area.

Let's take a whistle-stop tour:

Hire an e?bike from the rental station in Herrsching and ride off down the promenade for a tour of the county of Starnberg, beginning on the Ammersee lakefront. Head up to Andechs Monastery, perched on the Holy Mount, and reward yourself for your exertions with a tasty, refreshing beer. Next stop: Lake Starnberg, the second-biggest lake in Bavaria. The way there takes you through stunning scenery, with fully 70% of the county's surface area devoted to nature and landscape protection. Board the MS Phantasie, cross the lake to Berg and pass by the votive chapel where fairytale King Ludwig II drowned under mysterious circumstances. Conclude your tour at the well-known Five Lakes Film Festival in the town of Starnberg – you have reached your destination! And what better way to unwind than with a long, cold drink and a panoramic view across the lake to the Alps?

Good connections within and beyond the region (Munich is less than half an hour away) have encouraged the emergence of a diverse, forward-looking structure of industry. This fact, coupled with the county's high quality of life and kaleidoscopic spectrum of leisure offerings, makes for an exceptionally creative environment.

To take just one example: The special airport and German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Oberpfaffenhofen is today surrounded by production companies, service providers and start-ups representing the aerospace, automotive and technology industries. Research and advanced education in the region are reinforced in particular by the Max Planck Institute for Ornithology, the Evangelical Academy Tutzing, the Academy for Civic Education Tutzing and the Institute for Fisheries.
