Boasting an impressive array of world-class scientific and academic institutions, the Munich Metropolitan Region is second only to London and Paris as one of Europe's leading centers of science.

 

 

Universities of all descriptions can be found in the Munich Metropolitan Region. Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) regularly occupy top slots in European ranking tables and were among the first higher education establishments in Germany to be awarded elite university status. The Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt,  the University of Augsburg and the Technical University of Ingolstadt too are integral elements in the region's scientific and academic landscape. The multi-faceted spectrum of higher education in the Munich Metropolitan Region is rounded off by the presence of the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich.

Cultivating a strong focus on practical education for the world of work, the region's universities of applied sciences prepare thousands of students a year for future careers as specialists in industry and management. These universities are located in Augsburg, Erding, Weihenstephan, Ingolstadt, Landshut, Rosenheim and Munich. More than 30 universities in total are based in the Munich Metropolitan Region.
