The Munich metropolitan region is one of Germany’s leading centers for nanotechnology. Extensive basic research in the field of nanotechnology is conducted not only by universities and colleges, but also by research institutes such as the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry and the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration, which are highly active in this area.
For example, at the CFRP (Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Plastics) Technology Center, located in Augsburg, research institutes from the Fraunhofer Society, the DLR, and universities collaborate with forward-thinking and world-renowned mechanical engineering firms, as well as automotive and vehicle manufacturers. In addition to projects on CFRP processing, the center also supports training and continuing education for the new CFRP profession.
