“2025 Architecture Award” Ceremony

  • The 2025 Munich Metropolitan Region Building Culture Award in the category “Mixed-Use Neighborhoods, City and District Centers” has been awarded to two projects in the city of Freising: the “Redevelopment of Freising’s Downtown” and the “Comprehensive Renovation of the Asam Building”

  • In addition, the jury is awarding two special prizes for “Places for Good Coexistence” to the Werksviertel-Mitte in Munich and the Landlmühle in the Rosenheim district.

  • Furthermore, seven honorable mentions are awarded to projects from the Munich Metropolitan Region.

2025 Building Culture Award: “Transformation with Quality”

  • The 2025 Munich Metropolitan Region Building Culture Award is now open for submissions in the category “Mixed-Use Neighborhoods, City and District Centers.” In addition, the jury may award a special prize for “Places for Harmonious Coexistence”; projects may be submitted starting September 1, 2024.

  • Architects, interior and landscape architects, urban planners, engineers, project developers, cities and municipalities, as well as building owners, are invited to submit projects by November 7, 2024, that have been completed in the Munich Metropolitan Region over the past six years.

  • The Building Culture Award will be presented at the end of March 2025 and is held under the patronage of the Bavarian State Minister for Housing, Construction, and Transportation, Mr. Christian Bernreiter, MdL

EXPO REAL 2024: “We provide the platform to bring projects to life”

  • From October 7 to 9, EMM e.V. showcased the Munich Metropolitan Region alongside seven partner exhibitors at EXPO REAL 2024 in Munich, providing a space for networking and exchange

  • Wolfgang Wittmann, Managing Director of EMM e.V., and Prof. Dr. Weigel, Managing Director of the International Building Exhibition (IBA) Munich Metropolitan Region, spoke on Tuesday, October 8, during a panel discussion in Hall A1, Booth 320, about the project submission process as well as the goals and visions of the IBA 2024–2034.

  • October 15 is the first deadline for IBA project submissions.

Theme Day on Environmental Innovations: Solutions for Environmentally Friendly Production

  • The European Metropolitan Region of Munich Association, in collaboration with KUMAS – Environmental Competence Center, hosted an event on July 24, 2025, at the Kongress am Park in Augsburg.

  • There, seven best-practice examples from various sectors were presented, all of which enable efficient, resource-conserving production.

  • Expert speakers explained why environmental innovations are so important and what prerequisites and challenges exist for cooperation between science, business, politics, and society.

IBA Ideas Workshop at the House of Architecture

  • On July 15, 2024, the European Metropolitan Region of Munich Association invited all IBA Unit members to the IBA Ideas Workshop at the House of Architecture in Munich.

  • Project ideas were presented in short pitches, and open questions were discussed in a plenary session

  • The event was funded by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy as part of its regional management program.

Metropolitan Conference 2025: “It's getting serious—we need more action!”

  • On July 30, 2025, the European Metropolitan Region of Munich Association (EMM e.V.), in collaboration with Zugspitz Region GmbH, hosted the Munich Metropolitan Region Conference on the Zugspitze in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

  • Under the motto “Zug’spitzt – we need more action!”, EMM e.V. launched a thought-provoking debate with representatives from politics and business on implementation deficits in the region.

  • In addition to a presentation by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce for Munich and Upper Bavaria, a lively panel discussion took place with audience participation.
